Anniversary of the First Screen Aksinya – Emma Tsesarskaya

On June 3, 2019, it is the 110th anniversary of Emma Vladimirovna Tsesarskaya, a cinema actress, the RSFSR Honoured Actress (1909 – 1990). She acted the role of Aksinya in the first filming of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov.
The First Screen Version of the Novel “Virgin Soil Upturned”

80 years ago, in 1939, at the film studio “Mosfilm”, the first screen version “Virgin Soil Upturned” based on the title work by M.A.Sholokhov was completed. The film was made by the director Y.Raizman on the first book of the novel telling about collectivization in the Don country. The premiere took place on May 5, 1940.
The XIV National Award “Cultural Heritage”

On May 30, 2019, an awarding ceremony of the XIV National Award “Cultural Heritage” took place in Moscow, in the Main Hall of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. The ceremony was joined by A.M.Sholokhov, Deputy Chairman of the RF State Duma Committee for Culture, President of the ICOM of Russia.
National Competition “Russian Tree of the Year 2019”

Voting for the main tree of the country in 2019 continues in the competition “Russian Tree of the Year” organized by the noncommercial partnership “Healthy Forest”. Our Giant Oak of Vyoshenskaya is also added to the list of unique trees. You can vote for it till October 1, 2019, on the website of the All-Russian program “Trees are Monuments of Wildlife”. One of the aims of the competition is to inspire active citizens to take care of the environment, to draw their attention to the importance of the old-growth trees in the natural and cultural heritage of Russia which requires our care and protection.
Opera “The Fate of a Man” by Ivan Dzerzhinsky

60 years ago, in 1959, Ivan Dzerzhinsky wrote a piano version of the opera “The Fate of a Man”, the third work by the composer based on the works by M.A.Sholokhov.
Lessons of Literary Writing in the Homeland of Sholokhov

During June 2–6, 2019, All-Russian School of Literary Writing for young writers of the South Federal District will take place in the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The classes will be gi ven by the literary journal “Moskva” (chief editor Vladislav Artyomov). It organizes two master-classes – poetry and prose.
One of the Best Films about the Great Patriotic War

45 years ago, late in May 1974, near Melologovsky Village, the Volgograd Region, the film director Sergey Bondarchuk started the filming “They Fought for Their Country” based on the title unfinished novel by M.A.Sholokhov. According to many viewers this film even now is one of the best films about the Great Patriotic War.
