“The Fate of a Man is the Fate of the People”

The Kashari Museum of History and Local Studies
The exhibition presents the materials telling about the creation of the story “The Fate of a Man”, the readers’ impressions of it and about its embodiment in art. The visitors will see the story publications in different years including those in foreign languages, documents from the collection of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and the objects of the war time telling about heroism of the Soviet soldiers defending their Country from the German fascist invaders from the Kashari Museum of History and Local Studies.

“The Peoples of the Crimea”
The Crimean Ethnographical Museum

The exhibition presents about 300 unique artifacts, a pride of the Crimean Ethnographical Museum collection. The material, photo and documentary monuments tell about the ethnocultural traditions of the 30 peoples living in the Crimea. The visitors will see the national costumes, items of economic activity, household decoration, elements of the religious cult of the Russians, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Byelorussians, Estonians, Gypsies and other peoples including small nations living only in the Crimean territory (for example, Krymchaks).

“On the Quiet, on the Free, on the Glorious Don…”
The National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve
The exhibition devoted to the work of M.A.Sholokhov will be held within the frames of the Cross Russia – Austria Year of Tourism. It tells about the creative origins of the great Russian writer, his world significance, about the hero of Sholokhov’s works – the Don Cossacks, their original way of life in the Upper Don region late in the XIX – early in the XX centuries, about Cossack traditions and culture.

“The Fate of a Man is the Fate of the People”

The exhibition is devoted to the first publication of the story “The Fate of a Man” by M.A.Sholokhov. There are photos, archival documents, personal belongings of the writer, readers’ letters, the story editions in foreign languages, illustrations by the famous artists, fragments of the two screen versions made by B. Kryzhanovsky and M.Tereshchenko (1957) and by S.Bondarchuk (1959).

“Sholokhov’s Heroes in Cinema”
The National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve
The exhibition presents the materials about the 19 screen versions of the works by M.A.Sholokhov: screenplays, pictures of the filming process, film fragments, cinema posters, film-making equipment and others. From the interactive screen the visitors will be shown documentary fragments telling about the process of filming Sholokhov’s works.

“Here the Genius Lived…”

The State A.S.Pushkin Memorial Historical, Literary and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve “Mikhailovskoye” (Pushkin Reserve)
The National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve
The exhibition is devoted to the work of the artist Boris Shcherbakov, a master of landscape painting, the founder of the “literary landscape” genre. In the exhibition there are 50 paintings made in the places, where the great Russian writers A.S.Pushkin, I.S.Turghenev, M.Y.Lermontov, L.N.Tolstoy and M.A. Sholokhov lived and worked, and the materials from private collections.

“The Sovereign’s Guards”

The exhibition displays the materials about the foundation of the Yepifan Fortress in XVI–XVII centuries. It was one of the first Cossack borders of the Tula Region, which played an important role in defending the Russian border from attacks of Crimean and Nogai Tatars.

“A Find on the Edge of the Earth”

The exhibition displays nearly 200 items from the archaeological, ethnographical and natural scientific museum collections: traditional clothes of the northern peoples, household utensils, needlework, a northern dwelling (chum), sledges, installations of sacred and sacrificial places, attributes and ritual clothes of shamans, bones and teeth of mammoths, skulls of the primitive bison and musk ox, and many others.

The exhibition tells about the writing history of the story “The Fate of a Man”, its screening version and reactions of the readers and viewers. The exhibition shows photographs, documents, books of the story in foreign languages, illustrations by the famous graphic artists O.Vereisky, Y.Rebrov and Kukryniksy, and objects of the time of the Great Patriotic War.

“Genius Loci”

The exhibition shows the works of K.G.Pashinyan, Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Journalists and the Union of Designers of Russia. The pictures of unique places of Russia show a connection of the literary estates of Yasnaya Polyana, Spasskoye-Lutovinovo, Melikhovo, Tarkhany and Dvoryaninovo, the estates of Polenovo, which belonged to the artist V.D.Polenov, and Ivanovka of the composer S.V.Rakhmaninov, with the creative work of their owners.

“Sholokhov’s Personages in Cinema”

The exhibition shows museum items referring to the film shootings and a typology of objects of that epoch described in Sholokhov’s works. The exhibition presents four thematic sections: filming “The Quiet Don”; filming “Tales from the Don” and “Virgin Soil Upturned”; filming “The Fate of a Man” and “They Fought for Their Country”; cinema in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya in 1963.

The exhibition is designed in the form of “studies”, where Leo Tolstoy worked in different years: a war study, studies of the house in Yasnaya Polyana, a study in Khamovniki and a green study.

The exhibition is devoted to the 110th anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov and the Year of Literature in Russia.

The exhibition tells about the life and work of M.A.Sholokhov, the history and traditions of the Upper Don Cossacks. The visitors will learn about the writer’s hobby of fishing and hunting, will read his letters and public statements in defence of nature.
