Sholokhov Country
The work of the famous writer M.A. Sholokhov is closely connected with the River Don. In the east from Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, as long as Krasnoyarovskiy Village, on the left bank of the River Don there are places the writer loved most of all. Here, in the flood-lands, among the meadows and lakes Mikhail Alexandrovich spent most of his leisure hours. In these places he went hunting and fishing, met with his guests: the writers A.S. Serafimovich, Charles Snow (Great Britain), Martti Larni (Finland), the first cosmonaut Yuriy Gagarin and many other famous people.
The historic, memorial and scientific value of the nature of Vyoshenskaya is obvious. By the present there has been preserved the same landscape, which was in the writer’s lifetime.
The cherished landscape zone of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, according to the resolution of the RSFSR Ministry of Culture and the Rostov Region Executive Committee of the people’s deputy Council, covers the territories of the Sholokhov and Bokovskiy districts of the Rostov Region with the total area of 40000 ha including the landscape-reserved zone of 4840 ha.
