Devoted to Sholokhov and the Victory

In the festival opening ceremony the floor was taken by the head of the Sholokhov District O.N. Delnov, the deputy head of the Rostov Region Administration on land use and ecology S.G. Kurdyumov. From the stage there were read the greeting telegrams to the festival participants from the RF Ministry of Culture A.A. Avdeyev, from the plenipotentiary representative of the RF President in the South Federal District V.V. Ustinov, from the prefect of the Moscow South-East District V.B. Zotov.

In the morning of May, 22, the country folks and numerous guests of Kruzhilinskiy Village came to the house, where M.A. Sholokhov was born. Here was held a folklore holiday devoted to the 105th anniversary of the writer. It was opened by Olga Melnikova and Marina Nikulina with the poems devoted to the great countryman. The audience was greeted by the guests from Kazakhstan – Bisen Zhumagaliyev, who knew Sholokhov in person, and the director of the Memorial M.A. Sholokhov Museum in the village of Dariyinskoye of the West-Kazakhstan Region Olga Chekanova.

A final chord of the “Sholokhov Spring” was a gala-concert on the Don embankment which gathered thousands of viewers. The best groups and soloists who came to the holiday performed on the stage placed on the water.

The folk holiday which took place in Karghinskaya in the morning of May, 21, became the first page of the all-Russia Literary and Folklore festival of “Sholokhov Spring”. And this page was bright and impressive. Even a sudden shower did not hinder the residents of Karghinskaya in celebrating the 105th anniversary of M.A. Sholokhov.

On Friday, May, 21, at the Vyoshenskiy Palace of Culture there was held a solemn session dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the writer. It was opened by the folk group “The Orthodox Don” from Stanitsa Bokovskaya with a song devoted to the native Sholokhov’s places, and, according to the tradition, the schoolchildren of Vyoshenskaya presented the members of the family of Mikhail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov with small bunches of lilies-of-the valley.
XI International Scientific-Practical Conference “M.A. Sholokhov in the Contemporary World”

The workers of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve took part in the work of the XI International Scientific-Practical conference “M.A. Sholokhov in the Contemporary World”, which took place on May, 13-15, in the Moscow State Humanitarian University named after M.A. Sholokhov. It was organized by the Sholokhov Centre and Philological Faculty of the University.
