On March, 5, 2009, in Stanitsa Veshenskaya, in the assembly-hall of the People’s House of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve a great event took place which attracted attention both of the stanitsa’s residents and of the country museum community, television and press. P.S. Kosov, a well-known on the Don businessman, historian-local lore expert, a Cossack-colonel, presented an archive of A.A. Zimovnov, who for several years had been M.A. Sholokhov’s assistant on deputy matters, as a gift for the museum.
Japan Comes Closer

In the Excursion-Exposition Centre of the “People’s House” of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve on March, 5, 2009 the exhibition “Japan, Remote and Near” was opened. This time the guest of the Museum-Reserve has been the Azov Historical-Archaeological and Paleontological Museum-Reserve.

One of the halls of the Excursion-Exhibition Centre of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve displays an exposition “Veshenskaya Land Antiquities”. It is based on the archaeological collections from barrow excavations on the territory of our region, carried out by the Rostov State University within the period from 1979 till 1983. The exposition “Veshenskaya Land Antiquities” became a place for museum classes of archaeology for the schoolchildren of the Sholokhovskiy District. In class they learned about the tribes and peoples inhabiting the territory of our region in different periods, about the ancient Don fauna specimens. Having surveyed the archaeological exhibits, schemes, photos, the children acted as archaeologists – researchers, restorers.

On February, 21, 1984, Mikhail Aexandrovich Sholokhov was gone. A quarter of a century has already passed, but Sholokhov still remains the Sholokhov – the great Russian writer who revealed for the world the life of the Don Cossacks and who sang the matchless beauty of his native land.

The State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, the only one federal museum in the Rostov Region, is widely known in Russia and abroad as a unique monument of the Russian culture, the Cossack history, the Don nature. In 2006 it was included into the National Heritage List of the Russian Federation.

In the April of 2009 the workers of the State M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve took part in the expedition on the rout of Veshenskaya – Kazakhstan – Nikolayevsk-on-the Volga, aimed at collecting new materials about M.A. Sholokhov. In the memory of the outstanding countryman the participants in the expedition planted the Crimean pine seedings on the Volga land and in Kazakhstan.
