The Estate of M.A. Sholokhov

Outhouse. Summer Kitchen of the Sholokhovs.

The outhouse, located in the eastern part of the Estate, is a one-storied building in a traditional Cossack style. It housed a kitchen, a bathhouse and utility rooms. The exposition, opened in 2018, consists of two rooms - a kitchen and a lounge.

The kitchen has a Russian stove with a hotplate. The dishes used by the Sholokhovs in a kitchen everyday life are widely represented: a fire samovar, cast iron pots, pots, pans, a roasting pan, a small earthenware pot, an earthenware pot and a balsan. On the shelves, bench, drawers of the table there is a variety of kitchenware: ladles, a colander, cans for bulk products, chopper for cabbage, cheese cutter, fish scaler. On the table there is a slicer presented by a friend of the family A. Borodavkin from Finland. On the sideboard a warmer doll attracts attention. It is a personal thing of the cook Nyura, Anna Dolgova, who lived with the Sholokhovs for over 45 years and was considered a member of the family.

In the lounge there are unique exhibits - an iron bed and a blanket. These are the things of the 1930s from the pre-war house of the Sholokhovs that were evacuated together with the owners and miraculously survived to this day.

The exposition immerses in the atmosphere of the Sholokhov family home life.
