Sholokhov with Soldiers, 1941

This is one of the best-known pictures of Evgheniy Khaldey, a war correspondent, classic of home photo art, Honoured Worker of Culture.

Our museum collection contains about 10 of his works.

The famous photographs by Khaldey are devoted to the first and last days of the Great Patriotic war. The first photo shows the people by the radio-set, listening to V.M. Molotov speaking about the treacherous attack of Fascist Germany on the USSR. The second photo is about the Soviet soldiers erecting the Victory Banner on Reichstag.

In the Museum holding there are pictures by the famous photographer showing M.A. Sholokhov during the war and post-war years. One of his widely known pictures shows a regimental commissar Sholokhov with the Red Army Soldiers. There are several pictures of M.A. Sholokhov from the photo chronicle about the war. It would have been more difficult to make a truthful scene of those terrible years without those moments impressed on the film.

After the war, working as press photographer for the newspaper “Sovetskaya Kultura” Evgheniy Ananiyevich Khaldey took pictures of M.A. Sholokhov many times, including those at different forums in Moscow. In one of such pictures you can see the writer making an entry in the Memory Book in the lobby of the XXIII Congress.

Our Museum workers met with Evgheniy Ananiyevich  in Moscow. And he often visited the Don country. E.A. Khaldey, as if in relay, presented his book signed: “I am giving the book about the war and great Victory!” to a photo artist Karp Pashiniyan, who collaborates now with the Museum.

The Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov many times published the works of E.A. Khaldey, exposed them at the temporary and permanent exhibitions.
