Books by Y.Bondarev with Autographs

Two books by Yury Bondarev from the personal library of M.A.Sholokhov were transferred to the Museum by the writer’s family.

One of them, the first volume from the Collected Works in 4 books, was added to the Museum collection in 2005. It bears an autograph of Y.V.Bondarev: “To Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov–with great love for the golden word of “The Quiet Don”, the best XX century book, which heights have never been achieved yet by anyone. Always sincerely respectful,Y.Bondarev.Apr.5.1974.

In 2013, the book collection was added by a book by Y.V.Bondarev “The Strand” (“Берег”) with his autograph: ”To dear Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov–with unfailing love for your great talent. Jan.30.77.Signature”.

Bondarev met with Sholokhov many times. He visited the writer in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya. In his article “The Artist Enriching the World” Yury Bondarev wrote:

“Sholokhov is the greatest artist of our time. It is a rare thing of a writer to have so many learners of his talent among young writers as this outstanding master has. I know many writers who having put down the last word in the manuscript of their novels mentally travel to Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, to Sholokhov, – “What would he say? …what is his mark? ...

…The peculiarity of Sholokhov is that his books firmly etch in your memory, they can’t be forgotten wherever you might be, whatever you might think, however hard or easy you might feel.”

Sholokhov highly appreciated Bondarev for his novels “The Hot Snow”, “The Strand” and others.

Yury Vasiliyevich Bondarev (1924) is the author of the novels “Silence” (1962), ”TheTwo” (1964),”The Hot Snow” (1969), ”The Strand” (1975), ”The Choice”(1980),    ”Game” (1985),”Temptation” (1991) and other novels and short stories.

The writer is the Member of the USSR Union of Writers (1951), Member of the Union of Cinematographers (1963).

In 1995, Yury Bondarev was awarded the International Sholokhov Prize in the field of literature and art. He is the winner of the Lenin Prize, of two State and other prizes in the field of literature and art, the Hero of Socialist Labour.
