An Autograph of Pyotr Lebedenko

In the Museum-Reserve collection there is a novel by the Don writer Pyotr Lebedenko “Ice-Floats Drift to the Ocean with his autograph to Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov: “Dear Mikhail Alexandrovich! If my fate hadn’t sent me a luck of living in Sholokhov country and getting in touch with the powerful talent of the man, whose generous heart I ever deeply admired, I wouldn’t have done all that was in my power and of what I am accounting to you on this wonderful day. P. Lebedenko. 5-VII-80. Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya”.

The Museum keeps other books of the writer as well. The first book by P. Lebedenko “The Quiet Don Stories” was published in 1950 in Rostov-on-Don. Soon after it was issued the author presented the book to Sholokhov asking him to comment on it. Having read it Mikhail Alexandrovich said: “You’ve got something. Don’t stop writing”.

Pyotr Vasiliyevich Lebedenko is the author of numerous stories, novels, publicistic works. All his books are vital, truthful, full of love for his Country, they teach to be courageous and fearless. They were read by tens of thousands people, turned to films (“The Ice-Floats Drift to the Ocean”, “The Fourth Turn”), some of his works were staged in some drama theatres.
