Hunting Gear and Accessories
The things, which Mikhail Sholokhov used in preparation for hunting and during it, entered the Museum collection in 2013.
They are: a measure for gun powder and shot, a desk device for packing cartridges, a puncheon for stamping wads, a device for charging hunting cartridges of “Barclay” system, a box of wads for 12 calibre cartridges made in Finland, a bottle for gun oil, an extractor of central blow primers, a two-section wooden ramrod, a bag for shot, decoys to attract wild ducks and quails, a compass for orientation in the terrain and six stuffed ducks. Some of the things were bought in foreign countries, but mainly his hunting gear and accessories were of domestic production.
At hunting Sholokhov preferred to use cartridges charged by him personally; the process of charging was joined by his family members. For example, Mariya Petrovna, the writer’s wife, usually measured gun powder for the cartridges.
