The Nobel Triumph

12.12.2013

48 years ago, on December, 1965, M.A.Sholokhov was awarded the Nobel Prize in the field of literature. This event is told about by the exposure “The Nobel Triumph”, which is laid out in one of the ground floor rooms of the house in the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov and causes an abiding interest of the Museum visitors.

The exhibition shows the original documents, photos, a mandatory clothing and accessories, that M.A.Sholokhov and his family were wearing at the awarding ceremony, a copy of the Nobel Medal, a folder signed by M.A.Sholokhov “On the Nobel Prize”, which contains clippings of articles from Swedish newspapers about the stay of Mikhail Alexandrovich and his family in Stockholm during the Nobel festivities. The Nobel Prize Diploma reads that the writer was awarded the Nobel Prize for his epic novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” “in recognition of the artistic power and integrity that he displayed in his Don historical epic about the life stages of the Russian people.” The exposure was opened on the initiative of V.I.Sholokhova, Head of the Department, in 2001.

The Nobel Prize, according to the established tradition, is handed in annually on the day of the grantor’s death, beginning with 1901, in the unchanging, strictly verified ritual. The importance of the ceremony is so great, that being repeated again and again for over a hundred years, it attracts the attention of the world public on these December days.
