Pressing Environmental Problems are Discussed

05.06.2013

The workers of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve took part in the Environmental Congress of the Rostov Region held on June, 3, 2013, in Rostov. It was the first of such kind and was timed to the World Environment Day and the Ecologist’s Day of the Russian Federation.

It was organized by the Committee on the Environment and Natural Resources of the Rostov Region. The Congress gathered not only the leading scientists and experts in the field of environmental protection, but also the representatives of the territorial bodies of the Federal executive bodies, the Government executive bodies, the Legislative Assembly, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Rostov Region, local bodies and social institutions.

V.A.Vasilenko, Acting Chairman of the Committee, spoke about the results and prospects of the environmental activities in the Rostov Region. In particular, he said that the project of the natural park “Srednedonskoy” on the territories of the Sholokhov and Verkhnedonskoy districts had passed the environmental justification. The project is scheduled for 2014 – 2015.

The structure of the zone will include floodplain lakes and springs, the most outstanding in their natural and aesthetic qualities, such as lakes Ostrovnoye and Staroye, which are cultural heritage sites of regional importance as related to the life of Sholokhov. The planned area of the park is 176.5 thousand square metres. The protected zone status implies a strict limitation and banning for virtually all activities except for scientific research and monitoring.

At the forum there were discussed the issues of investment and introduction of the innovative products and innovations in the area of the environment protection and rational nature management; of the transition of enterprises to modern environmentally clean technologies and the incentives for the introduction of such technologies. There were proposed a number of measures to reduce the environmental stress in the Don region and overcome environmental problems.

The forum great attraction was the photo exhibition “The Nooks of the Don Wildlife” which was a vivid show of the unique and various natural resources of the Rostov Region. In order to preserve them for the future generations it is necessary to consolidate the common efforts of the government, the business community and the public.
