He Fought for His Country

08.02.2013

On February, 8, 2013, it is the 85th anniversary of Vyacheslav Vasiliyevich Tikhonov, a brilliant actor, National Actor of the USSR, Hero of the Socialist Labour.

Vyacheslav Tikhonov acted in the films, many of which had become classics of cinema in his life time. He did not simply act, but lived the life of his personage, he loved, suffered, fought together with him.

One of his film images is Nikolay Streltsov in the film “They Fought for Their Country”, which was shot by Serghey Bondarchuk after the title novel by M.A.Sholokhov. Vyacheslav Vasiliyevich conveyed brilliantly the character of a firm soldier, who having become practically deaf-mute after a severe concussion, voluntarily returned to operation, to his military unit and fought for his Country.

Lots of spectators highly praised the work of Tikhonov not outmatched even against the background of such masters, members of the cast, as S.Bondarchuk, V.Shukshin, G.Burkov, I.Lapikov, N.Gubenko. The actors did not simply play their roles, they fought for their Country.

By that time the actor had created the film images of Andrey Bolkonsky in “War and Peace”, a teacher Melnikov in the film “We’ll Live Till Monday”, Maxim Isayev (Stirlitz) in “Seventeen Instants of Spring”. V.Tikhonov was also brilliant as Nikolay Streltsov, and in 1975 he was titled the best actor of the year.

Vyacheslav Tikhonov visited Vyoshenskaya in 1974 and 1975, met with M.A.Sholokhov and residents of the stanitsa.

Those events are impressed in the photos kept in the stores of our Museum-Reserve.
