NewsExhibition “Patriotic War of 1812”07.02.2013On February, 20, the Excursion and Exhibition Centre “The People’s House” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov opens an exhibition “Patriotic War of 1812”. The visitors will get a rare opportunity to see the War of 1812 through the eyes of a Frenchman, an officer of “the great army” of Napoleon, who went through the whole dramatic “Russian campaign”. Christian Wilhelm fon Faber-du-Fort, an amateur artist, Lieutenant of the 25th Infantry Division, imprinted the events, of which he was a participant or a witness, for instance, the battle under Smolensk, and clearly reflected the harsh military life. In 1812–1831, a series of his drawings about the campaign to Russia were engraved and published by the author under the title “My Briefcase Sketches Made on the Spot in the Campaign to Russia”. It is the only edition of the album, a bibliographic rarity. The lithographies for the exhibition were provided by a collector Igor Dubinin. The exhibition will run from February, 20, till April, 21, 2013. Valery Yemeliyanov |
