NewsSchoolchildren “Travel” Around the World16.10.2012Interesting classes-excursions for the schoolchildren of Vyoshenskaya were held by the Museum-Reserve of M.A. Sholokhov. The children took a virtual trip around the world. The classes were held on October, 2-12, in the People’s House” at the exhibition “A Trip Around the World” laid out by the Museum of the World Ocean (Kaliningrad). Each class began with electing a captain to be at the wheel of the ship “Neva” in the voyage to follow the routs of the great Russian expeditions. Having made a virtual circumnavigation the children, in London, learned about the navigation instruments, in the Canary Islands they learned about a variety of igneous rocks, kinds of sand. In the Seychelles they saw a real Maldivian nut, which hit with a bizarre shape and size. While crossing the Passific Ocean the “travellers” studied the depth of Mariana Trench, learned about the animals inhabiting the deep water. The biggest toothed whale, a sperm whale, was met near the coasts of Antarctica. During the virtual trip around the world the children were active in studying the aquatic world, viewed the seashells and stuffed inhabitants of sea and ocean depths, measured the degree of water transparency on Forel’s scale of colour, learned about the methods of determining the currents in the ocean. The children were also attracted by the native masks, musical instruments and original amber decorations of the islanders. At the end of the trip each member of the class learned to knit a “bowline” knot. The museum classes-excursions at the exhibition “A Trip Around the World” showed the young residents of Vyoshenskaya a world of the ocean and broadened their outlook. Nadezhda Balkova |
