Ecologist’s Day

05.06.2020

On June 5, Russia annually celebrates Ecologist’s Day. It was established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 2007. The choice of the date for celebrating Ecologist’s Day in our country is justified by the fact that June 5 is the World Environment Day, and Russia thus joins the world events accompanying this international environmental event.

The celebration of this Day is designed to awaken in every person the desire to contribute to environmental protection and encourage as many people as possible to take action so that the growing burden on the planet’s natural life support systems does not reach a critical point.

In the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve there was developed a program, which is aimed at environmental education of not only pre-school children, but also other age groups. During the year, environmental campaigns, tree planting days, international competitions are held with schoolchildren, students and youth. So, for example, on the eve of Ecologist’s Day, in the museum-reserve, the results of the XIII International (correspondence) competition for schoolchildren’s research, organized jointly with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Rostov Region and the Non-Governmental Environmental Fund named after V. Vernadsky, were summed up. The theme of the competition: "Preserving biological diversity - we will preserve nature".  Young environmentalists from 28 constituent entities of the Russian Federation took part in the competition. All these events allow developing environmental awareness and love for the nature of the native land of the younger generation.

In connection with the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the world, all actions dedicated to the holiday and aimed at protecting the environment, employees of the Museum-Reserve conduct online. But, despite this, even during self-isolation, each of us can make our planet cleaner, for example, cleaning up trash and throwing waste into garbage containers. Of small affairs, a large one is formed.
