Exhibition of Zurab Tsereli on Don Land

18.02.2020

March 2, 2020 at the "Sholokhov-Center" of the National Sholokhov Museum-Reserve will start the exhibition of works by the national artist of Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli “Form and color. Volume Enamel. Small plastic”, where works performed in the technique of volume enamel will be presented.

Tsereteli revived and rethought in a modern way the forgotten art of enamel, which struck the imagination of the artist in his youth. In it, he saw great opportunities - the use for decorative and monumental decoration of public buildings and interiors.

The subject of the artist’s works is diverse and many-sided. They often repeat the plots of his numerous paintings and silk-screen prints, for example, colorful stilllifes and floral arrangements with Tsereteli's favorite flowers - sunflowers (works “Sylvia”, “Anisia”). The plots of the “Old Tbilisi” series reflect the holidays and everyday life of the Georgian people (the work “Sunday Bazaar”), and the “Sardinia” series were created based on the impressions of the master’s trip abroad. The artist managed to improve the technology of work so much that in some of them the interpenetration of colorful pigments practically conveys the trepidation of the painted brushstroke.

Zurab Tsereteli created the composition in the enamel technique, masterfully using the expressive properties of not only color but also volume. In master's enamel bas-reliefs and high reliefs, such complex overflows of color and light, a play of shapes and volumes, which allow you to achieve the impression of a special depth and saturation of space, immerse the viewer in a festive, fantastic world, are achieved.

The exhibition will feature a portrait of the great writer Mikhail Sholokhov, performed by the national artist in 1983.

Genre sculptural works of small plastic from the series “Citizens” complement the exhibition. In total, 40 works of the master will be presented at the exhibition.

Exhibition “Form and color. Volume Enamel. Small plastic” will work in the “Sholokhov-Center” of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve (Rostov-on-Don, Bolshaya Sadovaya St., 125/69) from March 2 to April 12, 2020, and then from April 26 to June 21, visitors to the excursion and exhibition center “People's House” will be able to see it (St. Vyoshenskaya, Podtelkova St., 66).
