Results of the XXI Conference "Sholokhov Readings"

From September 11 to September 13 at the excursion and exhibition center "People's House" the intensive work of the XXIth International Scientific and Practical Conference "Sholokhov Readings" took place. This year, the traditional team of the participants was replenished with new researchers of the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov, the history of the Don Cossacks. Researchers from Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, and Italy also took part in the conference. Pavel Kozhevnikov, a professor from Denver, Colorado (USA), also took part in the conference in absentia. Current reports have been made in various areas of studying Sholokhov's “phenomenon” at present.

Opening the conference, the director of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve Olga Anistratenko noted that the traditional “Sholokhov Readings” make an important contribution to the development of scholochology as a science. Evgeny Kostin rector of the International Baltic Academy addressed with greetings to the conference participants. Oleg Etlukhov, academician, member of the Writers 'Union of Russia conveyed from the Writers' Union of Russia and its chairman Nikolai Ivanov wishes for effective work of the conference. Tatyana Osipova, assistant professor of Southern Federal University, read out a greeting from Mikhail Zalikhanov, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Scientific Life of the Caucasus”.

Plenary sessions of the first day of the conference were devoted to the themes of the world philosophy of Mikhail Sholokhov (E. Kostin “On Sholokhov's Understanding”; O. Etlukhov “Mikhail Sholokhov and Modern Reality”; A. Dyrdin “A Sense of Direct Being”, G. Ghachev “On the Sholokhov Worldview and the article by P. Palievsky “The World Significance of M. Sholokhov”; L. Tabachenko “The Conceptual Field “Fate” in the idiolect of Mikhail Shlokhov” and others), a creative biography and reception of the writer's heritage (Yu. Dvoryashin “Creative History of “Virgin Soil Upturned”: myths and reality ”; E. Papkova “Novel by M. Sholokhov, “Virgin Soil Upturned”: Reading Contexts (according to letters from readers)”; N. Muravyova “The Author's Ideal in the novel “Virgin Soil Upturned” by M. Sholokhov; O. Bystrova “Speech by M. Sholokhov at the Second All-Union Congress of Soviet Writers: dialogue with the reader”; S. Vasiliev “Don and M. Sholokhov in the image of V. Bokov”), comprehension of Sholokhov’s work in the context of Russian literature (M. Larionov “Sholokhov’s “text” in A. Akhmatova’s poem “Requiem” "), a textual analysis of the writer's works (N. Dvoryashina "Mimic gesture of a smile as an expression of the mental state of the heroes of the novel by M. Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don”; S. Korostova “Complicated words in the semantic space of the novel by M. Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don”). The speech of T. Osipova was dedicated to the Sholokhov theme on the pages of the magazine “Scientific life of the Caucasus”.

The second day of the conference, which included a plenary meeting and a round table, was no less effective. The reports at the plenary session were devoted to the perception of M. Sholokhov’s work abroad and translators of his works (G. Vorontsova, “Olga Halpern - the first translator of “And Quiet Flows the Don”, I. Yusifova, “Translations and Translators of M. Sholokhov in Azerbaijan”, L. Slyusarenko “M. Sholokhov in Norway”), reflecting the writer's heritage in various art forms (T. Sukhorukova “Illustrations by A. Mosin to the story “Bastard”. Two author's versions”, E. Shirina “The image of Shtokman in the novel and on the movie screen”), reflection of life values ??in the works of the writer (T. Ushakova “Human Values ??in the Perception and in the Life of the Heroes of the “Don Stories” by M. Sholokhov”, F. Ovchinnikov “The People’s Philosophy of Life and Political Struggle in M. Sholokhov’s novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”), the creative history of the works of M. Sholokhov (O. Semenova “M. Sholokhov and the Red Partisans of the farm Podkuschevsky: from the History of the Creation of One Story”), to the study of the anthropological component of the Don population (V. Kashibadze “The Anthropological Chronicle of Azov: General and Particular in the History of the Population of the South Russian Steppes”). The subject of discussion was the reports on the modern experience of teaching literature in the school on the example of studying the novel by M. Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don” (A. Dmitrova “Getting Ready for the Unified State Examination in Literature: Problems of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” in school learning”, N. Kutnyakhova “Coaching approach to learning as a tool for realizing the tasks of modern education (on the example of studying the novel by M. Sholokhov “And Quiet Flows the Don” in the graduation class)

At a round table devoted to the problems of scientific commenting on the creative heritage of M. Sholokhov, areas for interaction and cooperation of literary scholars, researchers, teachers, local historians were identified in solving the most important problems associated with the initial stage of work on commenting on works, as well as the epistolary heritage of M Sholokhov.

The third day of the conference was dedicated to a significant date in the history of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve - the 35th anniversary of its founding. Employees of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve told about the expositions of the Museum-Reserve and how many “Sholokhov museums” there are in Russia (O. Bakhtiyarova “Sholokhov Museums in the context of the encyclopedia “Literary Museums of Russia”, L. Razogreeva “Expositions of the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve”, E. Popova “House with a mezzanine of M. Sholokhov in the memoirs of contemporaries”).

During the discussion of the directions of further work of the conference, proposals were made for organizing and holding the International Conference “Sholokhov and Chekhov”, a seminar for teachers of Russian language and literature in order to exchange experiences and the latest teaching methods and practice in preparing for the Unified State Examination, and prospects for cooperation and expanding the geography of conference participants were outlined.
