It is dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the wedding day of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov and Mariya Petrovna Sholokhova. The exhibition opening ceremony was visited by the students of Sholokhov gymnasium. They saw unique photos from the Museum collection and the archives of the writer’s family, a family tree of M.A.Sholokhov and learned about meeting of Mikhail Alexandrovich and Mariya Petrovna, about the difficult years they lived together and about hobbies and sports of the family. Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov and Mariya Petrovna Sholokhova lived 60 years together and raised four children. They met in 1922, when young Sholokhov after finishing his courses in Rostov-on-Don was sent to Stanitsa Bukanovskaya as tax inspector. Mariya Gromoslavskaya, a daughter of the former stanitsa’s ataman, was assigned to him as a statistician. Mikhail was captivated with the girl’s beauty and docile nature. Late in 1923, he made a proposition to Mariya. Her father, Pyotr Yakovlevich, after getting acquainted with his daughter’s chosen one, who impressed him, agreed to their marriage but on the condition that the young couple should be wedded in church. The wedding ceremony took place on January 11, 1924, in the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, in Stanitsa Bukanovskaya. On that very day their marriage was registered in the Podtyolkov Registry Office of Stanitsa Kumylzhenskaya the Khopyor District of the Tsaritsyn Region. We invite residents and guests of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya to visit the exhibition “60 Years in Love and Harmony” which will run at the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov until April 1, 2019. There will be held classes for schoolchildren based on the exhibition materials. Pre-registration by phone: +7(86353)21-9-66.
