“Environmental Assortment” for Schoolchildren

The workers of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov held an intellectual quiz “Environmental Assortment” at the school of Kolundayev Village. It helped the schoolchildren to learn about the basics of the environmental profession.

The boys and girls learned about geological disciplines and developed practical skills of diagnostics and determination of basic minerals and rocks, got an idea of the soil science profession and estimated a soil texture using the “wet” method. They could try themselves in the role of botanists with interest examining a herbarium and marking the plants registered in the List of Threatened Species of the Rostov Region. As real ornithologists they singled out from many birds those living in the Upper Don region.

The schoolchildren learned about the specialty of environmental engineering, a discipline really contributing in the development of harmonious relationship between nature and man, and could independently develop a strategy of human behavior causing no harm to the environment.

During the quiz “Environmental Assortment” the children realized how fragile the world we live in is, and how important is the role of specialists investigating and protecting the environment.
