Chennai Residents are Shown the Exhibition “The World of Sholokhov”

During May 16–20, 2018, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai, India, showed the exhibition “The World of Sholokhov” dedicated to the birthday of the great Russian writer.

The opening ceremony was joined by the students of the Russian language course, compatriots, representatives of the public, clubs and associations of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, admirers of the Russian culture. The exhibition, which has just finished its run in other Indian city – Mumbai, was presented by Y.M.Tolstopyatenko, Head of the Scientific Exhibition Department of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, and I.V.Panchenko, a researcher.

They told about the life and work of the winner of the Nobel Prize, the State and Lenin prizes in literature, the author of the epopee novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”, who discovered the Don Cossacks for the world. The novel was translated into European, and after the war – into eastern languages.

The works by M.A.Sholokhov, which were published 1408 times in a total circulation of 105 349 943 copies in more than 90 languages of the world, are very popular in India as well.

The exhibition shows photos of Sholokhov, illustrations to his books, historical pictures and drawings telling about the life of the Cossacks and Cossack housewares.

The exhibition aroused a bright interest of the visitors, active discussion of Sholokhov’s books, his contribution in the world culture and strengthening friendship of the peoples.
