“We Cherish the Memory…”

02.11.2017

On the 4 of November, 2017, the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” opens an exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the death of Nikolay Alexandrovich Bulavin, the first director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

In 1957, a young agronomist came to the state farm “Vyoshensky” to work. Five years later he became its director. Then he was elected chairman of the Vyoshensky District Executive Committee, and in 1970, he became the First Secretary of the Vyoshensky District CPSU Committee. Nikolay Alexandrovich was in excellent relationship with Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov, who supported his initiatives and undertakings, gave his advice and helped as Deputy of the USSR Supreme Soviet.

After M.A.Sholokhov died, N.A.Bulavin comprehending the need of preservation of the memory about the writer was keen on the idea of establishing a memorial museum. And in 1984, when the appropriate resolutions were issued, it was he, who was appointed director of the new museum.

From the very beginning, Nikolay Alexandrovich chose the right direction for the development of the museum: “We must create a kind of a unique literary and memorial museum, where the life and work of the writer will functionally unite in time and space, where the environment reveals the creative laboratory of the writer”. And today the Museum continues with this course, realizing the concept of the "Open Air Novel".

All who worked with Nikolay Alexandrovich and knew him personally, remember him as a strong-spirited, talented, intelligent and charming person. In the memory of the museum staff, he remains an example of unlimited devotion to the chosen cause and to the Motherland. During the three years of his work as museum director Nikolay Alexandrovich managed to do surprisingly much. He made a Master Plan for the development of the Museum, began restoration work at the museum facilities, under his leadership a museum complex in Stanitsa Karghinskaya was opened, the first scientific conferences were held and a construction of an apartment house for the museum staff began.

The heart of Nikolay Alexandrovich Bulavin stopped suddenly on the 7 of November, 1987. His premature withdrawal from life was a blow to the museum staff.

The exhibition shows photographs of different periods of life of Nikolay Alexandrovich, his personal awards and the first museum exhibits.

The exhibition dedicated to the memory of N.A.Bulavin will run until December 1, 2017, and all the visitors will be able to learn more about the first director of the Museum and to pay homage to this really great man.
