NewsWelcome to the Exhibition “In All Outfits You are Nice, My Deary!”23.10.2017The excursion and exhibition centre People’s House of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov welcomes you for the exhibition “In All Outfits You are Nice, My Deary!” from the collection of the Starocherkassk Historical Architectural Museum-Reserve. It started its run on October 20, 2017. The visitors have got an opportunity to see a traditional outfit of the Don Cossack women of the late XVI – early XX centuries, in which you can recognize the elements typical for the clothes of different nationalities, in particular, Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Circassians, Turks, Tatars, Kalmyks, and others. The exhibition opening ceremony began with a presentation, where the author’s collection of women’s clothes made by a fashion designer Natalya Kobzeva from Rostov-on-Don was shown. The students of the Pedagogical College and the secondary school of Vyoshenskaya acted as models. They showed dresses of different historical periods. The outfits were complemented with various accessories: hats, headbands, gloves and fans. Then the visitors went to the exhibition halls, where they saw really unique rarities displayed at the exhibition, as so few samples of clothes of the late XVI – early XX centuries have been preserved by the present time. The first excursion was guided by the worker from the Starocherkassk Historical Architectural Museum-Reserve, Yelena Rodinova, a keeper of fabrics. She told about the features of the Don Cossack women and the changes in clothes in different historical periods. For example, after the Patriotic War of 1812, the European fashion began gradually penetrating into the Don area. It changed the clothes of the nobility and ordinary Cossacks. Those changes are shown by the exhibits displayed: outwear (rotunda), different costumes, skirts, headwear, fur coats and underwear. At that time the clothes were lush and rich, they were made of expensive materials: brocade, velvet, silk, and were decorated with silver and golden buttons, embroidery, laces, river pearls, and others. Among the unique exhibits there are fans, handbags, gloves and ladies’ toiletries (powder-boxes, wagons, pins, hat pins, fans, shoes, perfume bottles, and others). The great attraction of the visitors was a woman’s outfit consisting of a robe and a dress, which was called “kubelyok” meaning “butterfly” as translated from Tatar. Such a dress was completed with a special headwear. The exhibition is supplemented with paintings by the famous artists – P.A.Bryullov, A.N.Pavlov, I.S.Kulikov, and photographs of the Don Cossack women of the late XIX – early XX centuries. You are welcome to the exhibition ”In All Outfits You are Nice, My Deary!” which will run for the visitors until January 26, 2018.
