The Estate of M.A.Sholokhov was Visited by T.V.Boiko

11.08.2017

On August 9 and 10, 2017, the Memorial House at the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov was visited by Tamara Vasilyevna Boiko, a daughter of the Ural journalist V.P.Vareyev, who worked for the newspapers “Kazakhstanskaya Pravda” and “Priuralye”, and often met with Sholokhov.

Tamara Vasilyevna told the museum workers a story of acquaintance of Mikhail Alexandrovich and Vasily Petrovich, and about meetings of their families in Uralsk. During the 16 years, visiting Kazakhstan the Sholokhovs stayed the first days with the family of the Vareyevs. They always looked forward to meeting the dear guests and prepared for their visits.

Mikhail Alexandrovich was fond of talking with young people, gave them his good advice, recited poetry by his favourite poets and fragments from his novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”. Raisa Alexandrovna, a wife of V.P.Vareyev, once joined the Sholokhovs for the opera “Prince Igor” by A.P.Borodin in the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow. As well, the Vareyevs visited Vyoshenskaya, in 1972, they spent a fortnight in the hospitable house of the Sholokhovs.

After the death of Mikhail Alexandrovich the families went on communicating by correspondence.

Tamara Vasilyevna presented to the Museum a priceless relic – a letter and a telegram from M.A.Sholokhov addressed to the Vareyevs. In the Guest Book she wrote:

“At last I have visited Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya and the Museum of M.A.Sholokhov. I’ve got a lot of impressions. After all I had known Mikhail Alexandrovich for 16 years. I thank the museum workers for their reverent attitude to everything connected with the name of M.A.Sholokhov. I have learned a lot of details about the life of his family. Thank you again for your kind keeping the memory of the great writer and for the warm reception. Yours. T.V.Boiko-Vareyeva. 10.08.2017”.
