The Exhibition “The Peoples of the Crimea”

24.03.2017

The excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov shows the exhibition “The Peoples of the Crimea” displaying unique exhibits from the collection of the Crimean Ethnographical Museum. The residents and guests of Vyoshenskaya can see an unparalleled collection of documents, photos and things telling about the ethnocultural traditions of 30 peoples living in the Crimea.

Opening the exhibition N.M.Tishchenko, Chief Curator of museum items of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, underlined the importance of creative cooperation of museums and exhibition exchange. Last year, Sholokhov Museum showed its collection in the Crimea, and now the Crimean colleagues have arrived on a return visit. Such a cultural exchange fosters visitors’ interest for the spiritual and material heritage of Russia, strengthening the international relations.

Y.N.Laptev, Director of the Crimean Ethnographical Museum, Honoured Worker of Culture of the Crimean Republic, noted in his speech that the exhibition opening ceremony takes place on a significant day – the third anniversary of reunification of the Crimea with Russia, which opened new opportunities for the Crimean residents and gave a new impulse for the economic and cultural development of the republic.

The author of the exhibition concept “The Peoples of the Crimea” L.A.Naumenko made the first excursion. The visitors learned about a variety of the peoples living on the peninsula and a mutual influence of their cultures, they saw traditional costumes of different nationalities – Russians, Byelorussians, Ukrainians, Estonians, Greeks, Armenians and others including Krymchaks numbering no more 200 people who live only on the territory of the Crimea.

The items shown at the exhibition are unique artifacts. Of great interest are the photos, census statistics, and unparalleled material monuments: ceramic and copper ware, jewelry works of the Crimean masters of the late XIX – early XX centuries, musical instruments, towels telling about religious and social differences, family way of life and national traditions.

The most demanding visitors will be brightly impressed with the exhibits, as they are not only a unique source base for researchers, but also represent a great cognitive interest.

You are welcome to the exhibition running until May 28, 2017, at the excursion and exhibition centre “People’s House” in: 66, Podtyolkov Str., Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

Working time: daily from 9:00 to 16:00, day off – Monday. Information on the telephone: +7 (86353) 21-0-62.
