“Sholokhov Spring is Waiting for Guests”

On May 27–29, in the home country of the great Russian writer, an All-Russian literary and folklore holiday “Sholokhov Spring” will take place.

The holiday organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and the Rostov Regional House of Folk Art is dedicated to the birthday of the Nobel Prize winner and the Year of Russian Cinema.

The big holiday program will be opened on May 27, Friday, at 15.00, by “Children’s Sholokhov Spring”, which will be held in Stanitsa Karghinskaya. The folklore holiday will be joined by young actors from Moscow, Volgograd and different parts of the Rostov Region. The guests of the holiday will meet with a fascinating world of cinema: each guest will be able to take part in shooting a film, creating its billboard and advertising. Games, competitions and master-classes will be cinema themed.

On the same day, at 18.00, a journalistic and artistic recital “Frames, Milestones and Dates are Streaking off…” will be held. It will narrate about the history of filming the works by M.A.Sholokhov, about the part of the writer in the work over the films, about the actors and the film directors who embodied Sholokhov’s images in cinema.

The first day of “Sholokhov Spring” will end with a folklore show “In Our Country of the Don” which will be performed in the central square of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

On May 28, Saturday, in the morning, the guests will join a merry theatrical reveille and together with the folk groups will go through the streets to the central square, where a long song marathon will take place on two stages. About 200 folk song and dance groups have come from different parts of Russia – Kalmykia, Adygea, Chuvashia, the Astrakhan, Vladimir, Vologda, Volgograd, Voronezh, Moscow, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Nizhegorodskaya regions, the Krasnodar and Stavropol territories, the Kazakhstan Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic. At this very time Kruzhilin Village, the home country of the writer, will make a folklore holiday.

The central park alleys of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya will be occupied by a motley and noisy “Fair of Arts and Crafts”, where one can see and buy original items of folk arts and crafts, and souvenirs. Those who wish to show their

knowledge of Cossack customs and traditions will be able to take part in the competition “Perky Kuren” (a Cossack house).

A series of lectures about Alexander Khanzhonkov, a pioneer of Russian Cinematograph, will be given in the Excursion and Exhibition Centre “People’s House” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. It will be followed by the opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Sovereign’s Guards”, which tells about the peculiarities of the guarding duty performance at the early stages of the Cossacks in Russia. In the central library the readers will take part in the meeting of the literary club “Meetings in Vyoshenskaya”, where a presentation of the seventh issue of the poetic almanac “Verkhny Don” (The Upper Don), which pages embrace the works by the poets of the Rostov, Voronezh and Volgograd regions.

The Saturday will end with a gala concert of the folk groups “Along the Quiet Don”, which will be held on the floating stage, a grand fireworks and a pop entertainment program.

On Sunday, May 29, at the racecourse in the neighbourhoods of Krasnosyolovsky Village, an equestrian sports holiday will be held.

“Sholokhov Spring”, which will take place in the home country of the writer for the 31st time will remind the residents and guests of the Stanitsa about the favourite pages of the works by the great writer and the fragments of the films made after his books. To learn more about the life and work of M.A.Sholokhov you can visit the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, which exhibitions will work on holidays from 8.00 to 21.00.
