“Traces of Cossack Old Times…”

The exhibition “Traces of Cossack Old Times…” Russian Cossacks in cultural monuments of the XVIII–XX centuries from the collection of the State Hermitage” is going to open on May, 22, in Rostov-on-Don, in the halls of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov (125/69 Bolshaya Sadovaya). We are glad to provide new exhibition halls for the main museum of the country, we are glad that namely this exhibition opens the exhibition activity of “Sholokhov-Centre”. We are particularly delighted that the event takes place on the days of the 110^th anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov and in the Year of Literature.

The idea of the exhibition headline came from the poetry of N.N.Turoverov “A Dream” (1939). The main museum of Russia and the major museum of the world, which collection numbers over 3.000.000 items, has presented only a small part of the cultural monuments of “Cossack Old Times”. Many of them are published for the first time. The exhibition is made of works of painting, graphics, sculpture, arts and crafts, armaments and military ammunition, books and faleristic monuments. Most of the items have never been demonstrated before in the southern regions of our country.

It is a significant event for all the Russian culture that the relics of the Russian Cossacks for the first time have come from the banks of the Neva to the Don region, the homeland of the great writer, who was the first to tell the world about Cossacks.

The exhibition will run from May, 22, until October, 4, 2015.
