Feed the Birds!

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov began the 30^th of December with the campaign “Feed the Birds!”, a winter series of lessons on the ecological path “Visiting Ecoznaika” with the children from “Romashka” kindergarten 2 of Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

The nature is loved by everybody. But not everyone cherish it. It is necessary to inculcate in children love for their native land, their wish to preserve it and study.

The museum-workers told the children how M.A.Sholokhov, the great Russian writer, loved and valued nature and how much he had done for the conservation of nature. The children learned about the birds wintering in the Upper Don region, about the difficulty of getting feed from under a thick snow, and how people help the birds to survive. Following the ecological path the children helped to make bird feeders, to choose a place to set them up, then to put sunflower seeds in the feeders and watched the birds coming “to dine”.

The knowledge acquired in the museum classes will help the children to save the life of the birds and attract them into gardens and parks to fight against insect pests of trees and shrubs.
