Latest Additions to Sholokhov Museum Collection

28.01.2015

A big collection of books and journals from the writer’s library, which has a memorial value, was added to the Book Fund of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve.

The collection includes the books belonged to Mikhail Alexandrovich , which were published during his life time (Collected works in 7 volumes (Moscow, 1956),”Virgin Soil Upturned” (Molotov,1948),”Virgin Soil Upturned” (Omsk, 1948),“Virgin Soil Upturned” (Moscow, 1952),“Virgin Soil Upturned” (Petrozavodsk, 1971),”The Getling” (Rostov-on-Don, 1969), “Science of Hatred. The Fate of a Man” (Moscow, 1948, and others), the works by Soviet and foreign writers with a bookplate of the library of M.A.Sholokhov (Gusev V.M.”Poetry”, Surkov A.A. “Poems and Songs” (Moscow, 1957), Abramov F.A. “The Last Hunting” (Moscow, 1973), Germaine de Staёl-Holstein “Corinne ou l’Italie” Moscow, 1969) and others).

Of scientific interest is the first issue of the bibliographic index “The Works of the Soviet Writers in Translations into Foreign Languages.1945-1953” [Issue 1] (Moscow, 1954), which included the works of M.A.Sholokhov, as well as the books presented to him by V.O.Osipov, a literary scholar, V.I.Firsov, a poet, by novelists K.M.Larionov, I.M.Shevtsov, A.Perventsev and others, with the authors’ autographs. They expand the understanding of the personal and creative relationship between the writer and the givers.

As well, the Book Collection Fund has been added with periodicals including “Roman-Gazeta” (1928) publishing the fourth part of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” and postwar editions of literary and fiction almanacs “Don” (1945, 1949) with the works of the Don writers (A.Kalinin, M.Andriasov, A.Sofronov, A. Garnakeryan and others).
