News“Orenburg Downy Shawl” in “Sholokhov-Centre”09.12.2015The exhibition “Orenburg Downy Shawl” from the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts will begin its run on December, 18, in “Sholokhov-Centre” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in Rostov-on-Don. The Orenburg downy shawl is known all over the world, it is a part of the all-Russian cultural heritage. The name “Orenburg downy shawl” is collective embracing both a thick warm shawl and a light openwork shawl; and namely the downy shawl determines the unique identity of the Orenburg country being the brightest item in its cultural treasury. The exhibition shows the works of the best knitters. They reflect the artistic peculiarities of the articles characterizing the world-known fine-wool-knitting craft. The visitors will learn about the unique peculiarities of the local fine goat wool that suggested the women making the light and warm shawl. The experience of knitting masters was handed down and developed from generation to generation to result in what we see the shawl now. Today, as well as 200 years ago, all the operations for the shawl manufacturing are performed manually. At the exhibition the Orenburg Museum workers will give their master-class on fine wood yarn spinning and knitting the Orenburg downy shawl. The wonderful products made in the traditions of the Orenburg fine wool knitting will attract the lovers of beauty and grace, and the visitors will be able to buy the shawls to their liking.
The exhibition will run till February, 8, 2016.
