News“Sholokhov-Centre” Shows the History of Russia in a Candy Wrapper10.12.2015On December, 18, “Sholokhov-Centre” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov opens an exhibition “Everywhere Ask for …” (The History of the Russian State in a Candy Wrapper)” presented by the Museum of the History of Chocolate and Cocoa “Mishka” in Rostov-on-Don. The visitors of the exhibition will learn about the history of chocolate from the origin of its appearance in the lands of ancient Mayans in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras up to the present days, they will know many new and interesting things about the stages of the chocolate production development in Russia, about the history of the wrapping art. The exhibits shown by “Mishka” will help to trace the centuries-old Russian history. Labels and packaging bore to the people the information about the events in the life of the country, about the repertoires of theatres and cinemas, there were produced series of wrappers devoted to the history of the peoples of the world as well as post and sport series. Sometimes the wrappers were enclosed with papers with a description of events, slogans, greetings, wishes and poems. The exhibition focuses on the labels and packaging designed after the Russian folk fairy-tales and literary works. The visitors will see candy wrappers of the famous Russian confectionaries and chocolate makers. In the pre-revolutionary Russia the highest chic was chocolates from the factory “Partnership of “Einem” Steam Factory of Sweets and Tea Cookies”. That company focused on sonorous names and stylish package. The boxes were decorated with silk, velvet and leather. The factory was a supplier of the court of His Imperial Majesty.
The exhibition will run till February, 8, 2016.
