NewsExhibition Devoted to Sholokhov is Opened in Moscow27.11.2015A large-scale exhibition project “From the Origins to the Nobel Triumph” devoted to the 110th anniversary of Mikhail Sholokhov and the 50th anniversary of awarding him the Nobel Prize in literature began its run within the frames of the Year of Literature in Russia in the State A.S.Pushkin Museum. The exhibition opening ceremony gathered a wide public: writers, Sholokhov scholars, figures of arts and representatives of public organizations. The members of the Sholokhovs family were also present at the ceremony: grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the writer. The welcoming speeches were made by V.I.Tolstoy, the RF President’s Advisor on Culture, E.A.Bogatyryov, Director of the State A.S.Pushkin Museum, A.M.Sholokhov, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, and S.V.Ursulyak, film-director of the new screen version after the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov. The speakers told about the world significance of the great writer’s work, which always bears its modernity and now gains even greater relevance. The unique exhibition from the collection of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve makes it possible to trace the fate of the writer from his birth to the very top of his work, to look into the writer’s “creative laboratory”, to understand and feel what is behind the lines of his biography and his works. The exhibition displays over 400 items: unique archive materials and a rich ethnographic material connected with the Don country and Cossacks. Among the writer’s personal belongings (some of them are exhibited in the capital for the first time) there are writing utensils, a clock stopped at the moment of the writer’s death, a typewriter, which Sholokhov worked at; a pack of Gauloises cigarettes, a cigarette-holder and an ashtray from his writing-table; the writer’s tail-coat and his wife’s ceremony dress, which were specially made for the Nobel Prize awarding ceremony; fishing and hunting tackles… One of the exhibition sections is devoted to various understanding of the works by M.A.Sholokhov in theatre, music and cinema including the four screen versions after the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”. The costumes and film shooting materials from the serial film by the film-director S.Ursulyak (which premiere will be on the TV channel “Rossiya 1” on November, 29), were first shown to the members of the exhibition opening ceremony. The exhibition has a run till February, 1, 2016, in the State A.S.Pushkin Museum in: 12/2 Prechistenka (“Kropotkinskaya” Metro Station)
