NewsAwarding Young Journalists in Sholokhov Centre24.11.2015A ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the III Regional Contest of Young Journalists for the best material on electoral themes took place on November, 12, in Sholokhov Centre of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. The place for the awarding ceremony was not chosen by chance: firstly, the contest was held in the Year of Literature in Russia and the year of the 110th anniversary of the great writer; secondly, M.A.Sholokhov as a permanent member of the USSR Supreme Soviet of the 1–10 convocations from 1937 to 1984 had done immeasurably much for preservation of the cultural heritage of our country, protection of nature, strengthening and development of the economy and social sphere of the Don region. With all his life he never better proved that the writer’s work and an active social and political life can coexist in one person and complement each other. The young journalists submitted for the contest their works about the history of the Rostov Region electoral system, the experience, problems and prospects of the youth election committees; reportages about the work of election committees on Election Day; analytical materials about elections, electoral process and electoral legislation. The winners were: Dariya Korenyughina, a history teacher from Karghin M.A.Sholokhov secondary school, Irina Diyakova, Deputy Chief Editor of the “Youth Information Agency” and Dariya Buksanova, a correspondent for the Internet Portal 161.ru . Many other contestants were awarded special prizes. The awarding ceremony was directed by R.A.Pupykin, Candidate of Political Sciences, professor of the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the South Federal University. The young journalists, who devoted their publications to the theme of elections, were welcomed and congratulated by A.S.Entin, Deputy Chairman of the Rostov Region election committee, B.L.Berkovsky, Editor-in-Chief of the Information Agency “North Caucasus”, E.P.Dorovskikh, Editor-in-Chief of the Internet Portal 161.ru. They noted a great role of the press in the electoral process, underlined the importance of providing the voters with objective information for everyone to be able to make a free and informed choice.
