Exhibition of Graphic Works by Alexey Bogdanov

19.11.2015

An opening ceremony of the exhibition “Landscape in the Novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov” took place on November, 18, in the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “People’s House” of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. The exhibition is devoted to the 110th anniversary of the great writer and the 50th anniversary of awarding him the Nobel Prize in literature.

The guests were welcomed by O.A.Anistratenko, Deputy Director of the Museum-Reserve, E.M.Tolstopyatenko, Head of the Scientific Exhibition Department, and A.P.Bogdanov, the author of the exhibition.

The exhibition presentation included fragments of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov performed by the actors of the Museum theatrical studio.

The exhibition shows graphic works based on the first and second books of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”, which the artist created during two years. These works are not illustrations to the novel, they only reflect the artist’s imagination of what he read combining abstraction and reality, what resulted in diversity and versatility of the image.

A.P.Bogdanov said it was an easy work, as M.A.Sholokhov creates landscapes in realistic manner in fact making landscape miniatures bearing a clear form, volume, texture and space location of natural components.

In all of his works the artist uses smooth and free lines symbolizing the flow of the River Don and fluidity of time. The river Don is a living image and a full protagonist of Sholokhov’s novel. It is present in the book from its first page to the last one. Under the writer’s pen, the river becomes a symbol of time, a symbol of the people’s fate.

Each of the paintings is accompanied by a quote from the novel that not only facilitates the perception of the graphic image, but also arouses a greater interest to the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don”.

For a brighter emotional perception the exhibition is added with ethnographic items from the collection of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov.

You are welcome to the exhibition “Landscape in the Novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov”, which will run until February, 28, 2016.
