NewsWhere are Cossacks, There are Cossack Stanitsas17.08.2015Dear residents of Vyoshenskaya and Kazanskaya stanitsas! The competition for the best Cossack house and ground will be held annually. So we announce a competition of 2015. A Cossack kuren is a historic appearance of our stanitsas and villages: wooden houses covered with clay and white-washed, with a hipped metal or reed roof; the windows with shutters, a wooden cornice and a plastered plinth. The farm buildings are made of wood or stone; the yard is surrounded with a wooden fence. Cossacks have their deep history, through generations they handed down their skills including those of building kurens. Cossacks did not build two-storied houses because they considered it better and expedient to make a basement room under the ground floor. Such a house was wind resistant and in winter the Russian stove made it warm, while in hot summer it kept cool. The windows were shut with carved wooden shutters. They decorated the house and protected the rooms from heat and drought in summer and from snowstorm in winter. The fence around the house was made of wood.
We invite all the residents to enter the competition for the best house and ground. The results of the competition will be summed up in the autumn. The winner will get a money prize as usual.
