Sholokhov Museum will Join the Second International Museum Forum

On September, 8, the Second International Museum Forum themed “The Mission of the Museum in the Multicultural World” began its 5-days’ work in Kazan.

Modern museums act as institutions exercising a significant influence on the formation of the society and its ideology, family and moral values, cultural traditions dialogue; and the forum favours to the keen exchange of views about the ways of solving complicated problems of preservation and protection of the historical, cultural and natural heritage, interaction between the society and authority, development and promotion of IT technologies in museums, which can attract the wide public. The forum participants will discuss the role of museums in reducing inter-ethnic tensions and prevention of extremism and terrorism, developing tolerance in the relations between representatives of different nations and cultures.

The forum is joined by Alexander Mikhailovich Sholokhov, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The welcoming speeches at the opening ceremony were given by V.G.Shaikhraziyev, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Tatarstan Republic; V.I.Tolstoy, the RF Presidential Adviser for Culture and Art, and ICOM President; M.A.Bryzgalov, Director of the Department for Cultural Heritage of the RF Ministry of Culture; M.Henker, ICOM President of Germany. The opening ceremony was attended by Airat Sibagatullin, Minister of Culture of the Tatarstan Republic; Gulchachak Nazipova, General Director of the Tatarstan Republic National Museum, and foreign colleagues – Julia Pagel, General Secretary of the Network of European Museum Organizations (NEMO); Michael Henker, ICOM President of Germany; Bjorn Stenvers, Marketing Director of the History Museum of Amsterdam and Geelvick-Hinlopen, and many others.

At the forum, the 120th anniversary of the National Museum of Tatarstan is celebrated .

On September, 9, the birthday of L.N.Tolstoy, a ceremony of laying flowers to the writer’s monument took place.
