“A Horse as Reflected in the Native Literature”

05.08.2015

An exhibition “A Horse as Reflected in the Native Literature” from the State Darvin Museum is going to open on August, 21, 2015, in the exhibition halls of the People’s House in Vyoshenskaya.

From ancient times to the present day the domestic horse has been a faithful friend and companion of man. Many thousands of years have passed since the beginning of domestication of the tamed wild horse. The evolution of breeds of domestic horses is closely linked with the history of the human society development with biological and historical aspects meeting together. The horse was needed everywhere: on hunting, travelling, in a battlefield and on a peaceful arable land. It was harnessed to the royal carriages and to miserable peasant droshky, it was dressed in armor, “half the kingdom was given” for a horse. The horse was as a wet nurse for a poor man and a source of pride for the powers that be. The image of a horse is very important for Russia, its culture. It is vividly presented in the literature and folk art.

Since ancient times the horse has been worshiped as a cult animal. In many cultures the horse was associated with the sun, his career – with the movement of the time.

The exhibition will show the paintings of an artist A.N.Komarov; each of his canvases is an illustration of a certain literary work.

The visitors will also see traditional clay toys of different peoples.
