The Team of Nikolayevsk-on-Volga is the Winner of the II Round of the XVI Rally of “Sholokhov Source” Movement

On July, 8–10, the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov held the II round of the XVI rally of “Sholokhov Source” movement, which was joined by the teams from Kazakhstan, Abkhazia and different parts of Russia – Nikolayevsk-on-Volga, Voronezh, Volgograd and Rostov regions.

The rally was opened with the event “The Time to Pick Stones”. The children were welcomed by A.M.Sholokhov, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. For the event the teams brought stones to add to the composition “Friendship Flower Garden” of Sholokhov Museum. These stones are unusual each bearing quotes by the famous writers and poets.

The next day began with a literary quiz “Sholokhov Geography: from the Source to the Nobel Triumph” on the works by M.A.Sholokhov. In the relay-quiz “Forest Tier” the young ecologists demonstrated their knowledge in the field of forestry. The members of “Sholokhov Source” movement made ecological expeditions to the Giant Oak of Vyoshenskaya, passed by “The Trail of Druids”, learned about the arenaceous flora, got to the forest cordon on horseback, had a drink of spring water in the Otrog Spring and made a journey down the Don River.

At the opening ceremony of the tent camp in Lebyazhy Village the rally members were welcomed by S.Y.Pokul, Head of the Ecological Education Department of the Rostov Region Ministry for Natural Resources and Environment, and A.V. Abakumov, a specialist-expert of the Millerovo Department of the Rostov Region Ministry for Natural Resources and Environment. They addressed to the rally members wishing a success in their environmental activities. S.Y.Pokul gave the teams memorable gifts: an ecological bulletin of the Don region, a photo album “Flora and Fauna of the Don Country” and a CD “The Red List of Threatened Species of the Rostov Region”

The members of the rally showed their environmental awareness in the contest “Ecoerudite”, their strength and agility in the competitions of kayakers and cyclers. For the first time there was held a competition on ecological orienteering. The competition day was continued on the bank of the Don River with a bright concert “Melodies of My People” and was finished with a friendly bonfire.

On July, 10, the teams presented their visiting cards. In their creative reports about the ecological expedition they shared their impressions of the itinerary.

On the results of the rally competitions the winner of the II round of the XVI rally was the team from Nikolayevsk-on-Volga. The second was the team from Daryinskoye, Kazakhstan. The third was the team from Sukhum, Abkhazia.

The main reward for all the rally members were meetings with old friends, new acquaintances, chat and unforgettable experience gained in “Sholokhov Sourse”.
