NewsThe Meeting of the Council for Culture and Arts23.12.2014The meeting of the Regional Council for Culture and Arts took place on December, 22, in the Rostov Branch of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The meeting was opened by the Rostov Region Governor Vasily Yuryevich Golubev. He noted the remarkable achievements in the cultural life of the region in the expiring year, set long-term objectives and stressed the continuity of the transition of the Year of Culture in the coming Year of Literature. The coming year holds in store anniversaries and landmark events for the Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, as Alexander Sholokhov, Director of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov, noted. In 2015, we are going to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov and the 50th anniversary of awarding him the Nobel Prize. These events will be marked with the traditional all-Russian literary and folklore holiday “Sholokhov Spring” and thematic exhibitions. As well, the festive events will reflect a symbolic coincidence of the writer’s date of birth and the Day of Slavic Literature. “The Karghin Fair on Pokrov Day”, which has been a success, is going to be annual as well as the popular holiday “Kruzhilin Toloki” in Kruzhilin Village. A new Museum sight ”The Farmstead of Timofey Karghin” is opened in Stanitsa Karghinskaya. In prospect, it will be used to display the most interesting exhibitions telling about the early period of literary work of M.A.Sholokhov. A novelty in the Museum activity in 2015 is a Congress of Russian Cossack youth, which will be held in Vyoshenskaya in the second half of June, on the initiative of the Governor. The Council members unanimously approved the proposal of the Governor and Sholokhov Museum-Reserve to hold a symbolic opening ceremony of the Year of Literature in Russia, on the territory of the Rostov Region, proving that “Don region is the home of great writers”.
