Granary Reconstruction is Completed in Stanitsa Karghinskaya
24.10.2014The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov completed the reconstruction of the granary in the farmstead of T.A.Karghin in Stanitsa Karghinskaya. In future it is going to be used for Museum exhibitions.
The farmstead of T.A.Karghin is a rare example of a stanitsa farmstead unifying dwellings, industrial and public buildings to form a historic and architectural complex connected with a literary and working activity of M.A.Sholokhov.
The farmstead was formed in the 1900-s. The main building of the industrial area was a mill surrounded by other offices. The granary was used for keeping grain brought by deliverers from different villages and stanitsas. It is a typical warehouse building of “a brick style”. The building is rectangular, one-storied, red-brick, with a gable roof. In the 1910-s, the barn belonged to T.A.Karghin, then to his son-in-law N.V.Popov. Later, the building was transferred to different ownerships and while in service it had undergone several changes.
At present, the works on foundation strengthening, reconstruction of the walls, masonry of the crowning cornice and the pediments have been completed. The interior works included plastering and painting of the walls and flaking stone flooring.
The granary is a monument of industrial architecture of the early XX century.
