The 200th Anniversary of M.Y.Lermontov in Taman

The Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov took part in Lermontov Readings for Children “My House is Where the Firmament is...” The opening ceremony held on September, 29, in Taman, was devoted to the 200th anniversary of M.Y.Lermontov.

The ceremony took place in the park, near a bronze monument to Lermontov, on the high steep bank of the Taman Bay. The public was welcomed by M.Y.Lermontov, a descendant of the poet, President of the association “Lermontov Heritage” in Russia; A.I. Afanasyeva, Head of the Taman Museum Branch; A.Orlov, an actor, who played the role of Maksim Maksimych in the film “Hero of Our Time” by S.Rostotsky.

T.Turchin representing the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov and the writer’s family expressed their warm wishes and presented the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov, “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” and seedlings of “Sholokhov” lilac, mountain ash, oak, willow, juniper, tubers and rhizomes of flower crops grown from the seeds of memorial plants from the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov as a gift to the Museum Complex of Lermontov.

The children took part in the literary contest and gained awards for good knowledge of the novel “Hero of Our Time”.

On that day students and children showed their performances and displayed their drawings. The holiday ended in the film “Taman” (M.Kott, the film director) dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the story “Taman” written by M.Y.Lermontov.

Meeting together the museum workers exchanged their experience and discussed the prospects for their joint cooperation.
