NewsPreparations for the 110th Anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov are Going On26.08.2014A meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding the celebrations dedicated to the 110th anniversary of M.A.Sholokhov was held on August, 25, in Rostov-on-Don. It was participated by A.M.Sholokhov, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve. The Rostov Region Governor, V.Y.Golubev, the chairman of the organizing committee, underlined that the jubilee of the great writer must become a memorable event not only for the region, but also for the whole country, and the quality of life of the people living in the Sholokhov District must be significantly improved. The plan of measures on preparation for the holiday includes a cultural component and a big program of improvement of public services in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya and Stanitsa Karghinskaya: road repairs, reconstruction of the embankment and the concert stage, and installation of an amphitheatre for spectators. Many things have already been done: there has been purchased sound equipment, collapsible spectator seats, turnstiles for protection of sites, composting toilets and others. A.M.Sholokhov spoke about the preparations for the jubilee All-Russian literary and folklore holiday “Sholokhov Spring” and other events of the Museum-Reserve dedicated to the significant date. Next year the preparation of the construction documents for the complex reconstruction of the Estate of M.A.Sholokhov will be completed. The plan includes museum and library exhibitions, contests for teachers, a large-scale meeting on the problems of school teaching of Sholokhov’s works, children festivals and competitions, and equestrian competitions. A number of interesting projects are on the way including “We Read Sholokhov” with the famous people performing on the radio and TV fragments of the works by M.A.Sholokhov.One of the aims of the anniversary celebrations is to arouse the people’s interest for reading Sholokhov’s books again and understanding them in a new way. A.M.Sholokhov noted: “If the people hadn’t simply “covered” at school, but had thoughtfully read “Taras Bulba” and “And Quiet Flows the Don”, then those events now taking place in Ukraine wouldn’t simply be possible”.
