International Committee of Literary Museums in Irkutsk

A.M.Sholokhov, Director of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, took part in the conference of the International Committee of Literary Museums (ICOM-UNESCO) entitled “Writer, Composer, Museum and Environmental Problems”, that was held on July, 26 – 30, in the Irkutsk Region.

This major event in the museum world is held in different countries and is aimed at attracting the wide public, museum specialists, philologists, historians, local scholars and politicians to the issues of the museum space preservation, environment protection and genius loci in historic and inviolable form.

The museum specialists of Russia, Germany, the USA, Italy, Latvia, Sweden, Croatia, Norway, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and other countries learned about the cultural and scientific traditions of Siberia, museum business achievements in Russia in general and in the Irkutsk Region in particular, exchanged their experience in solving environmental problems. The conference program included attending the Irkutsk Historical and Memorial Museum of Decembrists, National Museum of the Ust-Orda Buryat Okrug, opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Brothers Grimm. The Life and Work” presented by Bernhard Lauer, Director of The Brothers Grimm Museum (Kassel, Germany).
