“…Pray for Your Children, the Quiet Don!”

25.07.2014

This is the title of the exhibition presented by the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov in the State Museum of A.S.Pushkin, in Moscow. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War which is marked on August, 1.

The First World War became an ordeal for our country, which lost about two million people on the fronts. The tragic consequences were revolution, devastation, Civil War and death of Imperial Russia.

The exhibition “…Pray for Your Children, the Quiet Don!” tells about the Great War, its heroes, the patriotism of the Russian people, its history, moral and cultural values. The scenes of the First World War and the inner world of man at the front are carefully recreated in the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov. The novel citations describing horrors of war maiming people physically and mentally found their place in the exhibition.

There are illustrations of the well-known artists – Orest Vereisky and Yury Rebrov, original photos of Cossack families, munitions, weapons, ammunition, military awards, postcard collections from the front and popular prints depicting military battles.

One of the exhibition sectors tells about Don Cossacks, Knights of St.George.

The exhibition will run until October, 19.
