“Sholokhov Encyclopedia” is the Finalist of the All-Russian Contest “The Best Books of the Year”

On the results of the 23d annual all-Russian competition “The Best Books of the Year” held by the Russian Association of Book Publishers, “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” is acknowledged to be the winner in the competition of 2013 in the nomination “The Best Dictionary- Encyclopedia Edition” and was awarded the Diploma.

548 publications from 170 publishers from 31 regions of Russia and Russian publishers from five foreign countries were submitted to the contest. The experts from the Moscow State University of Press, Moscow State University of Culture and Art, Russian State Library, Russian State Children Library, weekly “Knizhnoye Obozreniye (Book Review) and representatives of the contest co-sponsoring organizations considered the contents, importance of the edition, level of illustrations and design originality.

“Sholokhov Encyclopedia” was published in 2013, in the publishing house “Sinergia” (general director E.A.Bessmertnykh, editor-in-chief Y.A.Dvoryashin). The articles were written by the well-known Russian and foreign Sholokhov scholars, who succeeded in complete covering of all the aspects of life and work of the classic. The large group of authors included 36 workers of the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov. The volume of the encyclopedia is 1216 pages comprising 730 articles. The edition is equipped with unique archival documents, numerous (over 1000 units) illustrative materials including photos and book illustrations to the writer’s works.

Awarding “Sholokhov Encyclopedia” the title of laureate is recognition of the importance of this great work by the professional community.
