NewsAn Artist of the Unknown War08.05.2014An exhibition “M.B.Grekov. An Artist of the Unknown War” from the collection of the Rostov Regional Museum of Local Studies will open on May, 20, 2014, in the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “The People’s House”. The visitors will learn about the life and art of Mitrofan Borisovich Grekov, a master of battle painting, born in the Voysko Donskoye Region. He played a prominent role in the development of Russian art. The exhibition will display portrait sketches of the Cossacks and soldiers of the First World War (“George Knight”, “A Soldier Wearing Red Epaulettes”, “A Cossack with a Rifle” and others), the 100th anniversary of which will be marked this year. To recreate the working atmosphere of the past master the memorial things will be shown: brushes, tongs for tensioning the canvas, paints, easel, palette, etudes. There are personal belongings of the painter: his clothes, hunting equipment, a wallet, a cigarette case, a hiking flask and a felt cloak. They show a reduced circumstance, undemanding and ascetic mode of life of Cossack Grekov. The exhibition will run till June, 20, 2014. Valery Yemeliyanov |
