May, 23-25, is “Sholokhov Spring-2014”

On May, 23 – 25, the All-Russian literary and folklore festival “Sholokhov Spring” devoted to the 109th anniversary of the great Russian writer Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov will be held in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

“Sholokhov Spring” has got its traditions which will be followed by the organizers this year as well. On Friday the children festival “Vyoshenskiye Vesnushki” will be joined by young performers from different parts of Russia and near foreign countries. There will take place an exhibition of children’s works and library meetings with writers and poets. A thematic evening dedicated to the life and work of M.A.Sholokhov will be held in the Palace of Culture.

On Saturday morning, folk groups will walk singing and dancing along the streets performing a theatrical Cossack reveille. The big festival will open on the stanitsa central square and on the stages to entertain the public with folk songs and dances; in the makeshift kurens (Cossack houses) guests will be welcomed and treated to Cossack cuisine dishes. The park alleys will turn into a fair of folk craftsmen, where the guests will buy souvenirs or make them by themselves at the numerous master-classes. In the evening a big gala concert and a firework will take place on the water of the River Don.

On Sunday a spectacular horse racing with fancy riding and rod slashng will be held at the local hippodrome.

During the holiday the People’s House will show new exhibitions from the collections of the best museums of Russia. The opening hours of the permanent exhibitions of the Museum-Reserve will be extended.

Holiday events will take place in Kruzhilin Village, where M.A.Sholokhov was born and spent his childhood, in Stanitsa Karghinskaya, where the great writer entered upon his writing career.
