NewsExhibition “Orenburg Downy Shawl”10.02.2014On February, 20, the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “The People’s House” of the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve displays the exhibition “Orenburg Downy Shawl” which is presented by the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts in the program of “2014 is the Year of Culture” The Orenburg downy shawl known all over the world is a part of the Russian cultural heritage. The downy shawl defines the unique identity of the Orenburg region; it is the brightest object in its cultural treasure. The exhibition shows the works of the best Russian knitters of the Orenburg region, the artistic peculiarities of the shawls which have made the wool knitting handicraft famous all over the world. The visitors will learn that the name of Orenburg downy shawl is collective, it includes a heavy warm shawl and a light openwork called “cobweb”, they will appreciate the unique peculiarities of the wool from local breed goats, will see the knitting technology. As it was 200 years ago, the shawls are made by handwork. The wonderful shawls made in the Orenburg wool knitting traditions will attract the lovers of beauty and grace. At the exhibition the visitors will be able to buy shawls to their liking. For those who want to learn the secrets of the knitters, the workers of the Orenburg Museum of Fine Arts will give a master-class on fine wool spinning and knitting Orenburg downy shawls.
