NewsFor the Memory of the Great Russian Writer M.A.Sholokhov07.02.2014February, 21 is a memorial day, the 30th anniversary of the death of the great Russian writer, Nobel Prize winner, Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov. The heart of M.A.Sholokhov stopped beating on the 21st of February, 1984, at one and forty a.m. He was buried in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya on the steep bank of the Quiet Don, which he glorified in his works. The Memory Day of the writer is an Open Day in the Museum-Reserve of M.A.Sholokhov: free admission to all the sites of the Museum. In Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya, on February, 21, a ceremony of laying flowers to the foot of the bronze bust of the writer at the Don embankment and to his tomb will take place. An evening party “Yours, Sholokhov” will be held in the Palace of Culture and will gather the writer’s countrymen, representatives of public organizations and delegations from northern districts of the Rostov Region. The guests will hear a living word of Sholokhov, his favourite songs and will enjoy classic and folklore music. In Rostov-on-Don, on February, 19–28, the exhibition “The Don. Sholokhov. Russia” prepared by the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve will take place in the Regional House of Folk Art. The exhibition will show the materials about the life and work of Sholokhov, about the history and culture of the Don region, about the original beauty of Sholokhov country described by the writer in his works. The visitors will see a photo of little Misha Sholokhov and his parents, will learn about his studies in the parochial school and gymnasium, the beginning of his literary career, the work over the famous novels, his public activity and meetings with well-known people. One of the exhibition sectors tells about the National M.A.Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, the only museum of Federal significance in the Rostov Region, which was founded in 1984. This is a unique memorial of Russian culture, Cossack history and the Don nature which is included into the State Code of Particularly Valuable Cultural Heritage Objects of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. On February, 28, in the Regional House of Folk Art, an evening party devoted to the memory of the genius of Russian literature, the great son of the Don country, M.A.Sholokhov. The performance will feature fragments of Sholokhov’s letters and works, the story of his activities for the benefit of the people, the writer’s favourite folk Cossack songs and reminiscences of those who had luck to meet with great Sholokhov.
