65 Masterpieces of the Theatre Museum

The State A.A.Bakhrushin Central Theatre Museum is going to open its exhibition on December, 2, 2013, in the Excursion-Exhibition Centre “The People’s House”.

The Bakhrushin Theatre Museum called “a treasure-house of theatre antiquity items” marked its 115th anniversary in 2009. This year it marks the 100th anniversary of the collection transfer by A.A.Bakhrushin, the well-known industrialist, philanthropist and patron as a gift to the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences.

The exhibition “65 Masterpieces of the A.A.Bakhrushin Theatre Museum” ran in Khakasia, travelled about Zelenogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory), Yoshkar-Ola, Taganrog to finish its display in Stanitsa Vyoshenskaya.

The exhibition displays the most important items of the Museum collection: theatre programs designed by the artists of the Silver Age A.Y.Golovin, K.A.Somov, L.S.Baxt, unique books of the XVIII–XIX centuries, personal belongings and photos of the great actors – Glikeriya Fedotova, Marius Petipa, Ekaterina Geltser, Matilda Kshesinskaya, Anna Pavlova, portraits of Nikolay Gogol, Alexander Ostrovsky, Fyodor Shalyapin.

The most important part of the exhibition is the section of fine arts: a sculpture “Berendey” by Mikhail Vrubel, the canvases by Iliya Repin, Igor Grabar, Pyotr Konchalovsky, sketches of the scenery, one of which was designed for the ballet “Beautiful Pearl” by R.Rodrigo, where the brilliant Matilda Kshesinskaya was the star. The play was staged specially for the coronation of Nikolay II. The visitors will see a hand-embroidered kimono of the famous ballet-dancer Ekaterina Geltser, a theatrical costume of Mariya Khristidi-Aleksina for Aida in the opera “Aida” by G.Verdi, and many other interesting things.

The visitors of the People’s House will see the unique collection of the theatrical rarities from December, 2 until December, 22, 2013.
